Oscar Bratland, 78, of Marshalltown, passed away February 22, 2008 at the Iowa Veterans Home. Private family graveside services will be held. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. on Monday, February 25, 2008 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Oscar was born on September 3, 1929 in rural Marshall County to Charles and Volburg (Kalsaby) Bratland. He attended grade school in rural county schools and high school in LaMoille.He honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1951.Oscar farmed all of his adult life. His love of the farm centered on John Deere tractors, cattle and sheep. Left to celebrate his life are his 2 sisters: Cora Campbell of Elyria, Ohio and Darlene Manz (Maurice) of Marshalltown, as well as several nieces and nephews and his Iowa Veterans Home family. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers: Tom, Con, and Eddy; 2 sisters: Tina and Clara; and 3 infant brothers.
