Perry Moore Sr., 90, of Marshalltown, died Saturday, January 8th. Memorial services to celebrate his life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 14th, at the 1st United Methodist Church in Marshalltown with Pastor Dale Batchler officiating. He will be laid to rest at a later date in the Woodlawn Cemetery at Toledo. Memorials may be directed to the Isaac Walton League or Iowa River Hospice. There will be no visitation. Ph. 641-844-1234.Perry Oral Moore was born March 17, 1920 in Toledo, Iowa, he was the son of Dr. Calvin G. and Bernice Berger Moore. He graduated from the Toledo High School in 1937, then attended Iowa State University, enlisted in the military in 1940 and was commissioned in 1942. Perry left active duty in 1945 as a captain of the United States Signal Corps, and served in the Army Reserve.At the time of his marriage to wife Marjorie Howard in 1946, Perry engaged in business with his father, a veterinarian, managing and operating a dairy farm near Toledo, Iowa. From 1956 to 1962, Perry was a sales representative with Eaton Laboratories. In 1962 he became associated with Sherwood Bell at Bell Insurance Agency in general insurance and real estate. After the death of Mr. Bell in 1965, Perry purchased and operated the business until selling, and then moving in with a larger agency, Dunkerton Reibsamen.During his years in Marshalltown, Moore was past president of the board of directors of the Mental Health Center at Mid-Iowa and a member of that board; past president of the Marshalltown Board of Realtors; past president of the Independent Insurers Association; member of the board of directors of Mid-Iowa Workshops for 10 years; member of the Marshalltown Board of Review for 15 years; former steward at First United Methodist Church; a member of the Promise Keepers; sustaining member of the Republic National Committee, and an active participant in many YM-YWCA and United Way Drives.Perry and Marjorie were married 63 happy years. Papa adored his children and grandchildren, and mourned the loss of his grandson P.H. Papa led a happy life teaching his grandchildren to hunt, fish and appreciated nature, and loved to golf with buddies. Perry also enjoyed being a member of the Elmwood Country Club for over 40 years.Perry is survived by his loving wife Marjorie; devoted children Perry H. Moore and fianc Diane Garrett of Marshalltown, and Mrs. Susan Leavy and husband Michael of Linwood, Kansas, sister Mrs. Doris Cammack and husband Clyde of Cedar Rapids, sister Marjorie Gibbs of Prescott, Arizona; and his grandchildren Cassidy Leavy of Lawrence, Kansas, Cody William Moore of Marshalltown, Coleman James Moore of Des Moines, Justin Hayes of Marion, and Jessica Hayes of Des Moines.Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother Calvin, foster brother Dr. Maynard Spear and grandson P.H.
