Phillip Ray Galloway, 94, of Marshalltown, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, February 4, 2022. He was the son of Clyde and Orona Hammond Galloway of rural Albion. Graduating from Lamoille High School in 1944, he went on to serve in the Merchant Marines from 1945-1946. In 1946, Phillip enlisted in the Army with the Occupational Forces in Korea. He was married in 1947 to the love of his life Darlene Shuler and from there they were blessed with three children, Cynthia (Terry) Pepper, Joyce (Tom) Nichols, and Darwin (Melissa) Galloway; seven grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. He farmed in Tama County for 30 years then moving to Green Mountain where he worked as a custodian and a bus driver for the GMG School District until his retirement in 1992. Phillip had a second love of his life and that was the love of restoring Thunderbird Convertibles, in fact 49 of them, all mostly in his retirement! Other likes of his included traveling, being a member of Fellowship Baptist Church, reading, and chocolate (Especially snickers and his wife’s chocolate brownies.) Preceding him in death were both parents, two sisters: Julia Bachel and Vieve Mohr, and a son-in-law Larry Hansen. Phillip and Darlene would have been married 75 years July 23. Services for Phillip will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2022 at the Fellowship Baptist Church beginning at 11:00 A.M. A visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services.
