Richard “Dick” Dean Devick of Gilman, passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines due to a sudden illness and surrounded by his family on Tuesday, October 30, 2018. A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Memorials may be directed to the family. Richard was born on October 20th, 1940 in Marshalltown to Orville and Pearl Devick. On September 28, 1974, Dick was united in marriage to Carolyn Hykes at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Richard had worked at Fishers for 40 years, until his retirement at age 62. He loved his Hawkeyes football team, bowling with friends and spending time with family. The things he loved most of all was spending time at Holiday Lake, which he was an enthusiast member for 56 years. Richard was extremely proud to be the first person to air chair at Holiday Lake. He treasured teaching his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren to air chair, ski and to be out on the lake. Richard will be deeply missed by his family, friends and dog Ben. Richard is survived by his wife of 44 years, Carolyn and sons, Richard Jr. (Laura) and Robin (Christy) Devick as well as his nephew Steve Cannon and grandchildren: Mathew (Amanda) Seiller, Matthew Paul Devick, Lacy (Stuart) Vandevick, Haley Kent and eleven great grandchildren. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Pearl, infant brother, Donald Eugene and sister Donna Jane and a granddaughter Leigha Devick.
