Richard E. Edgar, 58, of Marshalltown, Pastor of Great Commission Church on Highland Acres Road, went home to be with the Lord on the morning of December 29, 2009. The celebration of his life will be held on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will on Sunday, January 10th, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. also at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. Richard Earl Edgar was born on May 11, 1951, to Floyd and Winifred (Fouts) Edgar in Marshalltown, Iowa. Dick graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1969 and worked at several companies in Marshalltown including Dunham-Bush, Packaging Corporation of America, Marshalltown Manufacturing as well as for the railroad. After working for several painting businesses in Marshalltown, he started and ran his own, Central Iowa Painting, for 17 years. On December 15, 1984, Richard married Roberta Aves of Melbourne and have resided in Marshalltown all of their married lives. Recognizing the call on his life, he was ordained in 1986 and established Great Commission Church. Dick then served as its pastor for approximately 23 years. His life revolved around what God was doing and what he could do for God. Richard was also a bus monitor for the Marshalltown Schools and loved working with the kids and young people. Dick was a part of the Pastors Fellowship of Marshalltown and a member of the NRA. He loved his family, spending time with them and encouraging the kids in their activities. He enjoyed being outdoors whether it was on the farm, fishing or hunting, throwing the football with the kids, hiking, walking the dogs or watching the horses run. Left to cherish Dicks life is his wife, Roberta, their children; Richard D. (Natalie) Edgar and Rachelle Edgar all of Tulsa, Oklahoma, mother Winifred Edgar of Marshalltown,brothers: Craig (Kathy) Edgar of Marshalltown and Curtis (DeeDee) Edgar of Cedar Rapids. In Heaven Dick rejoins his father, Floyd, mother and father-in-law Orville and Rachel Aves and sister-in-law, Racinda Nygren.
