Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Rick and his family. Rick Grandstaff was born on July 22, 1950 in Newton Iowa. He was the son of Louise (Lantz) Mickle and Roy Grandstaff. It was in Newton he grew up and attended school, and graduated with the class of 1969. On June 17th 1970, he enlisted in the army, but due to an unfortunate back injury he was honorably discharged just several months later. At the age of 30 he moved to Marshalltown Iowa where later married Lanesa (Stewart) Webber. It was in December of 1982 his daughter Lindsay was born. He began work detailing cars but shortly after he started selling cars at the Volkswagen dealership. Being a car salesman quickly became a lifelong career for him. He was employed at Jensen Ford for years, and later on at Ken Wise for the remainder of his years in Marshalltown. In 2002 he moved back to Newton to be with his mother, and continued his career at Noble Ford and Clemons. It was after he retired that he worked part time selling furniture. What Rick treasured more than anything was time with his family. Being a father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and special friend is what he cherished most. He was a sports fanatic, a diehard Cowboys fan and New York Yankees fan, with any good weather you would find him outside, walking, jogging, grilling, or enjoying the sunshine. Left to cherish his memory is his daughter, Lindsay Grandstaff of Marshalltown, IA; his grandchildren, Aidan Nicholas Grandstaff & Brooke Mykal Grandstaff of Marshalltown, IA; his sister, Sharon (Grandstaff) Bryngelson of Newton, IA; and his niece, Marci Grandstaff and her daughters Hayley & India of Ocala, FL; as well as many cousins, aunts and uncles. He is also survived by the love of his life, Janet Funk of Newton IA, and all of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he loved dearly. In death Rick has rejoined his Mother and Step Father, Louise & Ed Mickle, his step brothers, Tom & John Mickle, his father, Roy Grandstaff; Grandparents George & Pauline Lantz, and Ed & Irma Grandstaff; his cousins Tony and Tawnya Lantz and a couple of uncles.
