Robert Burns, 88, of Marshalltown, died Thursday, June 17, 2010, at Grandview Heights while in the care of his loving family and Iowa River Hospice.Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 22, 2010, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. He was the son of James and Blanche (Wilson) Burns. He graduated from Albion High School in 1939. On September 22, 1944, Bob married Maxile Gunderson at Central Christian Church in Marshalltown. They made Minerva and Hartland area their home for the first year of their marriage and then rural Marshalltown. Bob had lived at Grandview Heights since September of 2008. Bob was a farmer. He loved his farm and his cattle. He also had raised hogs. He was a member of Farm Bureau and Cattlemans Association. He liked to keep busy on thefarm but did enjoy going fishing and camping.Left to mourn his loss are his children Marcia (Loren) Schmidt of Gladbrook, Phyllis (Gary) White of Kellogg, Barb (Dan) Dunham of LeGrand, Ron (Dianne) Burns of Marshalltown, and Donna (Alan) Hoop of Marshalltown; his 11 grandchildren Doug (Paula) Schmidt of Ankeny, Scott (Jaime) Schmidt of Gladbrook, Melissa (Monte) Hoffman of Newton, Jeffrey White of Kellogg, Eric (Josie) Duffy of LeGrand, Ryan (Rose) Duffy of Marshalltown, Brett (Marci) Burns of Colfax, Lana (Jason) Long of San Diego, CA, Brian Hoop of Tallahassee, FL, Adam (Emily) Hoop of Marshalltown, and Jared Hoop of Melbourne; his 10 great-grandchildren Brandon, Nick, and Parker Schmidt, Blane Wilkens, Estrella and Marissa Duffy, Isrrael and Mariah Duffy, Adilyn Hoop, and Ethan Long; his brother Dwight (Cleo) Burns of Lincoln, NE; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.In death he rejoins his wife Maxile who died in November of 2005, his parents, his brother Wallace Burns, and his grandson Mike Duffy who died in 1991.
