Robert Anthony Gutting, 66, of Marshalltown, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 at his home and under the care of his family and the support of the Iowa River Hospice Home. A Mass of Christian Burial for Robert will be held on Friday, April 28, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at St Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery with full military honors to be performed by the combined VFW/American Legion Honor Guard. Public visitation will be on Thursday, April 27, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a rosary to begin at 7 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Robert and his family. Robert was born on April 2, 1951 in Redwing, Minnesota to Bernard and Mary Ann Gorski Gutting. He attended St Francis Catholic School from grades 1 through 8 then attended Ellsworth High School in Wisconsin for grades 9 through 12. Robert served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from 1973 until 1976. On July 28, 1979, Robert was united in marriage to the love of his life and best friend, Marylou Frana in St Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, Iowa. He attended Marshalltown Community College from 1982 until 1984 for Electronic Technology. He worked as a T.V. and electronic repair man for 16 years then worked at USDA in Ames as an Electronic Tech for 8 years and retired in April of 2013. Robert and Marylou enjoyed much traveling, camping, fishing, karaoke, dancing and just holding hands together at their home. He was a brilliant man and could fix, repair and rebuild anything. Robert loved to garden, spend time outdoors and go morel mushroom hunting. He loved a challenge. Robert carved many things out of wood and his specialty was making morel mushrooms. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Robert loved spending time with his family and they loved him very much, and he will be greatly missed. He was always happy, joking around and ready to help out some one that needed it. Robert also really loved his 2 cats; Baby Cakes and Gracie Mae as they were very special to him. Robert is survived by his wonderful, loving wife and best friend of 37 years, Marylou Gutting. Siblings: Ed and Kathy (Rivard) Gutting, Debra Powers, Lori and DuWayne Johnson, Christopher and Heidi (Syverson) Gutting, Gloria and Bill Brunell, Philip and Sandra Gutting, Bernadine Peacock and Mary Heldenbrand. Robert is preceded in death by his parents Bernard and Mary Ann and brother Lawrence Gutting.
