Robert Bob Kasel, 81, of rural Albion, died Thursday, January 6, 2011, in the comfort of his home.Public memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, January 14, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Ph. 641-844-1234.Born on January 4, 1930, in Marshalltown, he was a 1948 graduate of St. Marys High School in Marshalltown. Bob graduated from the Marshalltown Community College with an AA Degree in 1971 and then two semesters at Iowa State to get his degree in business. From December 28, 1950 to November 3, 1954, he served our country honorably in the United States Navy and was entitled to wear the National Defense, China Service, United Nations, Korean Service, and Good Conduct Ribbons. He returned to Marshalltown and then to Albion in March of 1957 where he resided until the time of his death. He worked and retired from Swift and Company after 25 years of service. During this time he was a member of the National Brotherhood of Packing House and Industrial Workers. Bob served many positions with the brotherhood including local president and national secretary/treasurer.After retiring from Swifts, he worked at the Iowa Veterans Home as boilerman retiring at age 65 and then went back to work as part time ground maintenance for nine years.Bob loved the outdoors and met his final goal of returning home to die at the home he loved. He enjoyed hunting, horses, dogs and having a beer with his friends. Bob will be fondly remembered for his love of friends and helping out anyone in need.Surviving are his brothers Dick Kasel of Longmont, CO. and Ron Kasel of Twin Falls, Idaho and his sister Susan Scarpino of Des Moines, his best friend families Shane and Melissa Ream-Schossow and the Rick Williams family as well as many people whose lives were touched by the presence of Bob Kasel in their lives.In death, Bob rejoined his parents and his wife, Joyce.
