Roger Ankrum, 75, of Marshalltown, died early Saturday morning, March 2, at the Iowa River Hospice Home. His death came peacefully at 1:25 a.m. with family at his side. His family wishes to thank the staff of the Iowa River Hospice with sincere gratitude for making his final journey peaceful. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 7th, at the Faith Assembly of God. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until the service time. Memorials may be directed to his family. Born Harold Roger Ankrum on December 10th, 1937, in Marshalltown, he was the son of Ernest and Selma (Torrisdahl) Ankrum. He graduated from the Marshalltown High School. On July 5th, 1969, he was united in marriage to Mary Smith in Marshalltown. They made Marshalltown their home all of their married lives where he was employed by Gra-Iron Foundry for many years until their closing and then 11 years at M. Gervich and Sons. Roger was a member of the Faith Assembly of God and treasured his family- especially the grandkids! He enjoyed walk at night, going out to eat, hunting and fishing in younger years, drinking his Mt. Dew and will be fondly remembered for his generosity- he would give the shirt off his back for anyone. Left to cherish his memory are Mary, his loving wife of 43 years, his children- Craig Daniel (Wendy) Ankrum of Duluth, MN; Ruth Ann Sharer of Marshalltown, nine precious grandchildren- Kristen Hernandez of Marshalltown and her children Joesaph and Trevion; Terra Inman of Marshalltown and her children Elicia and Lylliauna; Blake (Nathan) Lucas and Ayden of Marshalltown; Shawn Carmer Jr. of Grinnell; Jaycee Stivers of Marshalltown; Caleb, Brianna, Joshua and Matthew Ankrum all of Duluth, his sisters Sylvia Best of Marshalltown, Delores Snelson of Altoona and Darlene McNary in California. as well as his brother James of Marshalltown and many nieces and nephews. In death, he rejoined his parents, great-granddaughter Destiny Hernandez, sister Fern Clayton and his son Craigs fiance Heather Hofer.
