Roger Mcgrew

Roger Burnell McGrew, 71, of Marshalltown, Iowa, and Naples, Florida, passed away September 3, 2013, at the Iowa River Hospice Home surrounded by his loving family after an extended battle with prostate cancer. Roger was born on September 21, 1941, to Elgin and Arlene (Devick) McGrew. He was raised on a farm southwest of Gilman, Iowa, and attended school there, graduating in 1959. Roger worked at Bruin Manufacturing for 40 years, where he served as Office and Plant Manager, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President. While working full-time, he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Drake University. Roger was dependable, trustworthy, faithful and knowledgeable. He liked to laugh and had a dry wit. Roger loved flower gardening and landscaping. He became a Master Gardener and assisted in the design and planning of several buildings in Marshalltown. As a member of First Presbyterian Church, he served as an Elder, chairperson for the Administration and Personnel committees, participated in a Bible study group, and was part of the Flapjack mens group. He enjoyed photography, reading, Civil War books and listening to tapes of Garrison Keillor and country western music. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 37 years, Charlene; his daughters, Janet (Tim) Fienup and Linda (Ron) Kauffman; his stepdaughters, Kelly (Dale) Renner and Ann (Greg) Carlson; brothers Larry (Barb) McGrew and Darrel (Linda) McGrew; grandchildren Dan, Lissa, and Jack Renner; Mitch and Chad Carlson; Keely (fiance Joel) and Paul Fienup; Grant (Andi), Meghan, and Sydney Runge; Felicia and Caroline Kauffman. He also played a role in raising Debra (Howard) Huff and David (Cindy) Depew. Preceding him in death were his parents and his daughter, Sherry. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 7, 2013, at First Presbyterian Church in Marshalltown.
