Roger Wayne Yeager, 94, passed away on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at home under the care of St Jude Hospice and his loving family at his side in State Center, Iowa. Memorial services for Roger will be held on Friday, June 27, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. A public visitation will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. also at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Roger was born on October 12, 1919 in Delhi, Minnesota to David and Lucy Mercer Yeager. Roger graduated from Delhi High School in May of 1940. On July 20, 1941 Roger was united in marriage to Vivian Fisher and to this union they were blessed with two children; Ruth and Wayne. Roger served his country honorably in World War II from 1941 until 1945 in the 932nd Signal Battalion in the United States Army. Roger owned a taxi company in Grinnell in the late 40s. He also was the co-owner of the Gamble Store in State Center and co-owned Yeager Chevrolet in State Center. Roger served as the Mayor of State Center and served as a Councilman. Roger also served as a police officer for State Center and was a former volunteer fireman. Roger and Vivian also were the caretakers of the State Capital Rose Garden in State Center for many years. Left to cherish his memory is his children; Ruth and Wayne. Grandchildren: Jeff Flowers, David (Caitlin) Flowers, Jennifer (Matt) Walton, Sara (Ryan) Mcatee, Elisabeth Yeager and Jonathan (Rachelle) Yeager and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Roger is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Vivian, three brothers and two sisters.
