Ruth Kathryn Allen (Brasch), 95, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2018 under the care of Iowa River Hospice, surrounded by her family. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Hope United Methodist Church in Marshalltown, at 10:30. A visitation will be held on Friday, March 30, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5-7p.m. For condolences please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call (641)-844-1234. Ruth was born on July 19, 1922 in Indianola, Iowa to the proud parents of Eric and Katherine (Volz) Brasch. They then moved to Marshalltown in her teenage years, and graduated from Marshalltown High School with the class of 1930. After her schooling she was employed for over 40 years at Marshalltown Manufacturing as a riveter and working her way up to a supervisor. She also enjoyed her time at Alley Silkscreen, monograming shirts and uniforms. In her free time she volunteered at the House of Compassion every Thursday. She was a devote mother and grandmother, never missing a school event and always cheering the loudest. In her younger years she was a great bowler, and traveled to Cuba for the Nationals for bowling. She was also on a State Championship team for softball that would travel by train and play surrounding towns. She help server her Country during World War II she worked as a plane spotter in Marshalltown always vigilant making sure that no enemy planes were approaching. More recently she had a love of being outside tending to her yard making sure everything was in pristine condition. On days that she could not be outside she would work on jigsaw puzzles and loved the game Freecell; she loved Freecell so much she would not quit a game until she completed it, she kept detailed notes and completed over 20,000 games. Ruth touched many lives and will be missed by her family and many friends. Left to cherish her memory are her children; John (Chris) Allen, and Julie (Garland) Schossow, grandchildren; Sara Allen, Emily Allen, Katie Schossow, Jase (Abigail) Schossow, and Drew Schossow. She is preceded in death by her parents Eric and Katherine, siblings Eric Brasch, Bob Brasch, Charles Brasch in infancy, Maggie Wilson, Marie Brasch, Helen Davis, and Virginia Olson.
