Ruth Menter-Carter, 78, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away peacefully, Monday, February 18, 2013 at Iowa River Hospice in Marshalltown. Services for Ruth will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held an hour prior to services. She will be laid to rest in Riverside Cemetery, Marshalltown, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed in Ruths name to Iowa River Hospice. She was raised and educated in the Marshalltown school district, graduating from Marshalltown High School. On July 8, 1950, she was united in marriage to Robert James Menter of Marshalltown. From this union came two children: Danny Ray Menter (Lori) of Casa Grande, Arizona; and Diana Marron of Las Vegas, Nevada; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Ruth enjoyed working for several area businesses including Marshalltown Trowel and Titus True Value. Ruth had a true passion for camping and fishing as well as spending countless weekends with family and friends around a campfire. Ruth and Robert were Instrumental in forming the first childrens foster care program in Marshall County. She belonged to several area groups including WBA, Rebeccas, and the White Shrine. Ruth moved to Arizona for 10 years. In 2008, on a trip back home, she met Melvin Carter, a long time Marshall County resident. They fell in love and on May 9, 2009, they were united in marriage. Ruth spent the last few years traveling with Mel, splitting time between Marshalltown and Arizona. She considered herself very lucky to again find love and companionship in her golden years. Ruth is survived by her husband, Melvin; children: Danny (Lori) Menter of Casa Grande, Arizona; Diana Marron of Las Vegas, Nevada; Steve (Judy) Carter of Ames, Iowa; Rick (Margaret) Carter of Ames, Iowa; and Linda Carter of Florida. Grandchildren: Jennifer Bennett, Cortney Watson, and Lacey Boege; five great-grandchildren; and one sister, Frances Logsden.Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Robert, and one brother, Clyde.
