Update: A visitation for Santiago will be held on Friday, November 20, 2020 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Services will take place on Saturday, November 21, 2020 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Parish: St. Mary's Catholic Church. Per the proclamation from Governor Kim Reynolds on November 16, 2020, Visitations will be limited to 15 attendees at a time and masks need to be worn at all times for attendees ages 2 and older. Santiago Magaña-Ibarra, 75, of Marshalltown, passed away Thursday, October 29, 2020 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines. A funeral mass for Santiago will take place on at St. Francis of Assisi Parish: St. Mary Catholic Church at Following the service, he will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Garden. Santiago was born on December 20, 1944 in La Quemadita, Michoacán, Mexico to parents Santiago Magaña Mendez and Maria Jesus Ibarra Servin. Growing up, Santiago liked going to church and visiting the Blessed Sacrament. He was a bull fighter and loved to sing and play guitar with his friends. He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Maria Estella Magaña Magaña in their hometown on December 17, 1976. He moved to Iowa in 1996 and in 2001, he brought his family to Marshalltown. He worked at JBS, retiring after 20 years. Santiago was very friendly and loved spending time with his family and friends. In his free time, he enjoyed taking walks and watching baseball, especially the St. Louis Cardinals. He was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Every year in October he would travel back to La Quemadita for his hometown celebration, where he loved to visit with family and friends and do community service projects. Left to cherish his memory is his beautiful wife of 43 years, Maria Estella Magaña; his 8 children: Maria Salud, Adriana, Julia, Santiago, Ernesto, Ruben, Raquel and Maria Guadalupe; 25 grandchildren; siblings: Maria Carmen Magaña-Ibarra, Esther Magaña-Ibarra, Margarita Magaña-Ibarra, Eloisa Magaña-Ibarra, Domingo Magaña-Ibarra and Margarito Magaña Magaña and his mother-in-law Cirina Magaña Contreras. Santiago is preceded in death by his parents, siblings: Felipa Magaña Magaña and Tarcision Magaña-Ibarra and his father-in-law Maurilio Magaña Cancino.
