Steven Douglas Maxfield, 61, of Marshalltown, so fondly known as Max to his friends, amongst many other nicknames, departed this life on the afternoon of Sunday, March 13th, at the Hawkeye Care Center in Marshalltown with family and friends at his side. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Berry officiating. Memorials may be directed to the family. Born on December 29th, 1954, in Marshalltown, he was the son of James Russell and Bessie Marie (Matney) Maxfield. He graduated from the LDF High School in 1973 and was later employed at Marshalltown Trowel, CNW Railroad and Lennox Industries. Max enjoyed fishing, time spent with friends, hanging out at home and around the campfire, mushroom hunting and paying Yahtzee with his mom, Bessie. Left to cherish his memory are his mother, Bessie, sister, Brenda (Bud) Wardman, brother, Allen (Jennifer) Maxfield and sister-in-law, Carol Maxfield; nieces and nephews- Tambri (Kermit) Wilshusen, Todd Wardman, Chris (Sandra) Wardman, Rod (Tom) Maxfield, Kelly (Jill) Maxfield and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death, Max rejoined his father, brother, James Russell Maxfield, niece, Nan Maxfield and his wife, Denise Pothast.
