Theresa Jean Rhiner, 47, of Ames, formerly of Marshalltown, died early Friday morning, May 4th, at the Israel Hospice House in Ames. Her death came at 4:20 a.m. with her family at her side after a long and courageous battle with breast cancer. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 9th, at St. Marys Catholic Church with Fr. Jim Miller as celebrant. She will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown from 5-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service. Memorials may be directed to her family. Born Theresa Jean Rhiner on March 15th, 1960, in Hesperia, California, she was the daughter of Grant and Elizabeth (Fisher) Rhiner. She was raised in California and in 1987 moved to Marshalltown with her sons Michael Rhiner and Eric Hamilton. She received her Bachelors degree while in Marshalltown and furthered her education at ISU earning her Masters Degree in Science. While attending school, she was employed at Mary Greeley Medical Center in the Cardiac unit and also assisted students teaching chemistry. Eventually, she moved to Iowa City where she continued to tutor Iowa students in molecular and organic chemistry. Theresa was very compassionate and enjoyed her family and friends. Left to celebrate her life are her sons: Michael Rhiner and Eric Hamilton of Ames, granddaughters: Skylinn Rhiner (7), Madison Hamilton (2), her mother Elizabeth (Fisher) Rhiner of Marshalltown, seven siblings: Julie (Rhiner) (Lorenzo) Randolph of Washington, Iowa, Jeff Rhiner of Grover Beach, CA., Cynthia Chase of Highlands, Texas, Christopher (Tammy) Rhiner of Carson City, NV., Tom Rhiner of Washington, Mary (Rhiner) Dominguez of Grover Beach, CA., and Katherine (Rhiner) Snider of Marshalltown, and her nieces and nephews Maria Otte, Robert Chase, Brittany and Joshua Rhiner, Collette Wait, Lillyann Zesh, Nicholas and Monica Eipperle and Amanda and Kaitlyn Snider. In death she has rejoined her father, Grant.
