Tim

September 12, 1968 — September 13, 2021

Timothy Charles Snyder, of Marshalltown, left this world surrounded by his loving family on the night of Monday, September 13, at the Iowa River Hospice house one day after his 53rd birthday.  Memorial services will be held on Sunday, September 19 at 6:00pm at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Gregg Davison officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 4:00 to 6:00pm also at the church. For condolences please visit www.mitchellfh.com. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Tim and his family.  Born on September 12, 1968 in Council Bluffs Iowa he was the son of Charles and Mary (Hennis) Snyder. He spent the majority of Middle and High School years at the Miniooka High School in Illinois and graduated from the Marshalltown High School class of 1987.  Tim‘s work ethic started at a young age with his West Des Moines paper route that he loved. His adult work life included 10 years at HyVee where he made lifelong friends. Followed by 25 years with Waste Management where he greeted each morning with a picture and a smile. He was proud of the job he did and the people he met along the way. Everyone who knew Tim knew he was a hard worker and the job would be done right.  Tim raised his family in Marshalltown and to say they were the light of his life would be a dramatic understatement. Ben was born in 1998 and Samantha followed in 2002. Tim loved coaching Ben in sports and supporting Ben’s love for fishing. Tim loved watching Samantha’s dance and even found himself on stage with her a time or two. He truly couldn’t have been prouder of the young man and woman they became and considered himself blessed. In 2017 Tim met the love of his life, Karen McGaffey. Karen is a firecracker that definitely ignited a spark in Tim and they were married on September 19th, 2019. Fate drew a cruel blow when Tim was diagnosed with cancer 2 weeks after their wedding. That did not stop the joy, laughter and love they shared. Any time spent around the couple would have you laughing and Tim would be laughing right along with you. The joy Karen brought Tim with her humor and love brought a sparkle in his eye and a smile to his face. He called her his Angel and his family will be forever grateful for the care and support of Karen.  Tim was loved deeply and in return loved fiercely. He loved to have fun and treasured his time hanging with family and friends. Tim loved barbecuing (which he learned from his dad) and treating his friends and family to a good meal.  He enjoyed his time by riding Harleys, hanging out with the QT crew, he enjoyed music of all kinds but especially loved watching Exit 185 (with Karen hitting that cow bell), and could always be found supporting his teams; MHS Bobcats, Iowa State, the Cubs, and the Bears. Tim and Karen’s friends and family were a constant source of love and support during his cancer battle. During this last week he was visited by “Angels'' on motorcycles who did a motorcycle parade circling his home.  Tim’s caring nature shown through to the end as taking care of Karen and his family was his top priority. Tim helped Karen get her business established in the 13th Street district, worked at remodeling their home, helped Ben with his new home, and supported Sami from afar at Morningside University in Sioux City visiting her as he was able. Getting his mom settled in a new home was a priority for him and he was excited that she would be moving closer into the new Hanson School Apartments.    Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Karen; his children Benjamin and Samantha Snyder, both of Marshalltown; his stepchildren - Molly Frese of Des Moines, Marissa Frese of Nevada, and Macy Frese of Ames; step granddaughters, Ava and Adalynn; his mother Mary Snyder of Marshalltown; siblings Chris (Bernie) Massey of State Center, Tom (Aimee) Snyder of Marshalltown, Kathy (Tyrone) Patterson of Tempe, AZ, and Stephen Snyder of Marshalltown, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, including his friends at Waste Management.   In death, Tim rejoined his father, Charles (Chuck) and his grandparents.  Tim would tell you to always eat dessert first! Take the extra chocolate chip or peanut butter cookie. Enjoy what life has to offer for many times it is too short. Love one another deeply and treasure every moment. Laugh, cry, and think everyday.
