He received his education in the South Tama Schools and later enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving our country honorably during the Viet Nam Conflict and in the years 1965-1967. On September 10th, 1971, in LeGrand, Iowa, Tony was united in marriage to Janice Johnston. Even though years later their paths divided, they remained close and shared the joy of their daughters and grandchildren. For those who knew Tony, there is no doubt the guy was a workaholic. He devoted countless hours to the love of the American Automobile! As owner of Classic Details, he restored the pride of many cars and trucks on the road, and he even didnt discriminate on it, he also cleaned Fords and Chryslers a hard job for a die-hard Chevy guy! Tony also worked in area businesses in construction and semi-truck detailing. Tony was an impeccable house keeper and not a speck of dirt entered his domain of home or shop. He enjoyed his flower gardens, yard work, fishing, trucks and cars but most of all his family (especially the grandchildren) and friends. Left to cherish his memory are his children: Kristen (Jim) Gray and their children- Megan, Keaton and McKenna all of Ankeny; Tara (Brett) Goecke and their children Jarrin, Laurin and TJ all of State Center; his dear friend, companion and mother of his children Jan Legg of Marshalltown; very special nephew Chad (Jillisa) Legg and girls of Beaman, 2 brothers, and 1 sister, as well as many nieces, nephews, friends and all of the Johnston family. In death, he rejoined his parents and brother.
