Velma Pauline Cameron, 87, of Anita, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2013 at the Anita United Methodist Church in Anita, Iowa. Burial will be after memorial service, and then everyone is welcome back to the Anita United Methodist Church for a luncheon. Memorials may be sent to either the Anita United Methodist Church or the Breast Cancer Society, in her memory, in place of flowers. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Velma and her family. Phone 641-844-1234.Velma Dunkerson was born on October 9, 1925, at home in the Sigourney, Iowa area to Cecil and Rena Bombie Dunkerson. On February 8, 1946 Velma was united in marriage to Thomas Wayne Cameron in Compton, California were Wayne was stationed during World War II. They also resided in the state of Washington and San Antonio, Texas before returning back to Iowa to live in Anita; where they opened their own business; Cameron Body Shop. When Wayne passed away in 1988; Velma stayed in Anita until her health forced her to move to Melbourne, Iowa to live with their oldest daughter & husband, Judith & Terry Exline for two years until she moved to the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, Iowa.Velma started her working career in the silk mills in Los Angeles, CA and did the books at Cameron Body Shop that she and Wayne owned for 37 years. She also worked at Colonial Manner for 18 years. Velma was a member of the Anita United Methodist Church as well as the Ladies Bible Group. She had a passion for selling Avon products during the 70s and was very good at that. She also played the guitar and was in dance groups. At the age of 13; she & her father started the Dunkerson Sisters Orchestra and played guitar in Southern Iowa. Later in life she played at Nursing Homes. She was a remarkable singer.Velma is survived by her children: Judith (Terry) Exline of Melbourne, Iowa; Tom (Rosemary) Cameron of Arcadia, Iowa and Diane (Mick) Bryant of Le Grand, Iowa. Grandchildren: Gabrielle (Patrick) Coughlin of Des Moines, Iowa; Samantha (Becky Morrison) Exline of Melbourne, Iowa; Millicent, Elise, Bridgette and Maris Cameron all from Arcadia, Iowa; Christine (Jason) Huntrods of Marshalltown, Iowa; Kelly (Derek) Gurney of Yuma, Arizona; Jennifer (Humberto) Figueroa of Houston, Texas; Sarah (Greg) Undhal of Albert Lea, Minnesota; Jason (Monica) Long of State Center, Iowa; Michael (Justine) Long of Marshalltown, Iowa; Angela Bryant of Portland, Oregon and Carissa Bryant of Wellsburg, Iowa. Great grandchildren: Megan, Vada, Justin, Johnathan, Gage, Haleigh, Makia, Kinley, Hannah, Mason, Brittany, Madi, Hunter, Lexee, Katie, Andrew and Lexus. She will truly be missed by many.Velma is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Wayne and both of her parents.
