Virginia (Hall) was born March 29, 1953 in Marshalltown, Iowa to Ralph “Shorty” and Vera (Fleming) Hall. She attended school in the Green Mountain school district. On January 16, 1972, she was married to Richard Johnson in Melbourne, Iowa. The two welcomed a son, Kenneth James, in 1972. Virginia was a beloved “sample lady” at Hy-Vee in Marshalltown and a long time employee at the Times-Republican. Virginia had a heart for serving others and proudly donated much of her time to the VFW, Iowa Veterans Home, Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary, and any stray cat that showed up on the farm. She enjoyed taking road trips to look for eagles and Freedom Rocks, baking her famous sugar cookies and chocolate cake with peppermint frosting, and snuggling her cats. Most of all Virginia will be remembered for her love and devotion to her family. She lovingly took care of her grandparents in old age and doted on her mother Vera until her passing. She enjoyed taking her grandchildren to the Iowa State Fair and letting them get as many temporary tattoos as they wanted, family dinners where her ham balls and swiss steak her favorites, and keeping “Grumps” in line. Her grandchildren will cherish the memories of taking trips to the library, shopping sprees at the Dollar Tree, and cups of fudge with little spoons. Virginia will be lovingly remembered by her husband Rick; her cats Molly and Dozer; Son Ken (Niki); grandchildren; Malaina (Ethan), Michael, Colton, and Ashlynn; great- granddaughter: Aumree; best friend Shirley; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. In death, Virginia rejoins her parents Ralph and Vera Hall; Grandma and Grandpa Fleming; brothers Robert Hall and David Waltemeyer; and a host of beloved Family members.
