Wilbur William Whitman, 79, and Darlene Frances Miller Whitman, 77, of Bella Vista, Arkansas passed away peacefully at their son and daughter-in-laws home in Iowa City, Iowa on Sunday September 1, 2013. A memorial service will be held at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa on Saturday, September 7th at 1:00 p.m. There will also be a memorial service at Highlands Church in Bella Vista, Arkansas on Wednesday, September 11th, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Wilbur and Darlene. Phone: 641-844-1234. Wilbur and Darlene were united in marriage on November 7, 1954 in Ackley, Iowa. Wilbur was born on May 31st, 1934 in Iowa Falls to Lester Whitman and Gladys Mulford Whitman Seefeld. Wilbur worked as a meat manager in Waterloo and Marshalltown, as a meat buyer in Cedar Rapids and retired as the Director of Meat, Deli and Bakery for Hinky Dinky Food Stores in Omaha, Nebraska. Darlene was born on February 20th, 1936 in Ackley to Cobus Miller and Nancy Janssen Miller. Darlene worked at Montgomery Ward in Marshalltown, for Podiatrists in Marshalltown and Cedar Rapids and at Borsheims Jewelry in Omaha as well as being a homemaker. Wilbur and Darlene retired to Bella Vista, Arkansas in 1998 where they enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing a practical joke or two, golfing, bridge (Wilbur is a Life Master), traveling and many church activities including Rally for the Cure and Arnies Army Cancer charities along with other local activities and charities. Wilbur and Darlene were survived by their daughter: Jayne Worsfold and her son Kyle Worsfold. Daughter: Vicki Nelson and her husband Max Nelson and their daughters: Megan and Melissa and her sons: Xavier and Xander and daughters: Michaela and Melanie. Son: Rob Whitman and his wife, Colleen Fitzgerald. Darlene is survived by her sister Norma Koger and brother Leroy Nelson. Darlene is preceded in death by both parents, siblings: LaVonne Schwennen, Dwayne Miller, Maxine Miller, Gary Miller and Phyllis Jansonius. Wilbur is preceded in death by both parents and his sister Charlene Jensen. Memorials may be directed to The American Cancer Society, Highlands Churchs Rally for the Cure, Arnies Army or to a favorite charity of your choice.
