William Bill Roads, 82, of Marshalltown, died Sunday, April 1, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames, while surrounded by his loving family. Visitation for Bill will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, April 5 at Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown. Memorial contributions may be directed in his name to his family. Bill was born October 18, 1929, the son of Lewis and Madge(Elliott) Roads. He attended school in Liscomb and Marshalltown and following his education, traveled across the United States working as a crop sharer (farmer), painter, welder, bait shop owner and walnut mill worker. He met the love of his life Sharon Rae Barker at Lillie Mae Candies on Main Street in Marshalltown. They were married on July 1, 1962 in Des Moines, Iowa. Throughout his lifetime he had many interests and hobbies including: fishing, hunting, photography, antiquing, rocks and Indian artifacts, camping and especially mushroom and asparagus harvesting. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 49 years Sharon Rae Roads of Marshalltown, his children: William (Judy) Roads of Haverhill, Christine (Roy) Browder of Lucedale,Mississippi, Charles Roads of Pleasant Hill, Karen (Michael) Nablo of Marshalltown, and Kandy (Justin) Glenney of Marshalltown, his sister Susan (Glenn) Kielly, his father-in-law Raymond Barker, his grandchildren: Michael Jones, Lynn Large, BJ Browder, Mary Boyd, Jeff (Stacy) Roads, Matthew Roads, Katie Roads, Michael R. Nablo, Gregory Nablo, Benjamin (Holly) Nablo, Blake Glenney, Jake Glenney and Jillissa Glenney, his 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and his mother-in-law.
