Adolph D. Harre Jr., 83, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. Funeral Services for Adolph Jr. will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2013 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Scritchfield of First United Methodist Church officiating. Public visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 2, 2013 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home where his family will be present to greet friends. He will be laid to rest with full military honors by combined Veterans of Foreign Wars Harry C. Harter Post #839 and American Legion Frank Lewis Glick Post #46 presiding. Adolph Harre Jr. was born on November 28, 1929, the son of Adolph and Mary (Nicholl) Harre, Sr. He received his education in the rural country schools and graduated from Marshalltown High Schools, class of 1948. Immediately following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps reserves. He served our country honorably as a Truman Trooper. He served active duty one year and also dedicated eight years in the reserves. Adolph was united in marriage to WandaMae McCarthy on April 16, 1952, in Iowa City, Iowa. He was employed at Fisher Controls while in his Senior year of high school - beginning an apprenticeship that stretched a colorful career ending at retirement in 1995. Mr. Harre was a dedicated employee for nearly 48 years. He was a loyal member of the UAW Local #893, 1st United Methodist Church and the Frank Lewis Glick Post #46 of the American Legion. Adolph had a true passion for camping and gardening as well his love for his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Adolph is survived by his children: Cynthia Kay Shipley, David (Deb) Harre, Cheryl (David) Cobb and John (Tanya) Harre; 9 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Jean (Sam) Reese, Karen (Rudy) Eskia and Lola (Ross) Oliver; Norma Harre; two sisters-in-law: Mick Price and Maggie (Herbert) Nelson. He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother Wayne.
