Alan βAlβ Hoop, 78, and lifelong resident of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on the evening of March 20, 2024 at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 at the Marshalltown High School Roundhouse. There will be a time of remembrance and viewing from 6:00 to 7:00pm. A service will start at 7:00pm, followed by a time to meet with the family until 8:30pm. Visitors are welcome to dress casually in your favorite Bobcat or Cyclone gear. A short graveside service will be held on Wednesday, March 27, 2024 at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be donated to charities within the Marshalltown Community at a later date. Al was born December 30, 1945 in Marshalltown, Iowa. He was the youngest of three children born to Herbert and Dorthy Hoop. Al grew up in Marshalltown and later graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1964. He served his country in the United States Army until he was later honorably discharged.
On April 9, 1976, Al was united in marriage to Donna Burns. Together they made their home in Marshalltown and raised their three sons together, Brian, Adam and Jared. Al was employed with Fisher Controls for 37 years and over his time with the company worked in many roles. He was additionally active within the Marshalltown Community School District working with them for over 20 years and coaching sports. He is recognized distinctly by the community for his work on the Marshalltown City Council for 16 years. Al took part in the American Legion Post 46 of Marshalltown and spent many nights cheering on Marshalltown High School Sports. He gave 45 years of volunteer work on coaching with the Marshalltown Little League and the Marshalltown Sports leagues. He loved to cheer on the Iowa State Cyclones, watch his granddaughters play sports and go golfing at the American Legion.
He is survived by his children, Brian Hoop, Adam (Emily) Hoop and Jared Hoop; his grandchildren, Adilyn Hoop, Samantha Hoop and Jordyn Hoop.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Donna Hoop; his parents Herbert and Dorothy Hoop; and his brothers, Herbert and Leo Hoop.
