Albert "Junior" Dierks

Albert (Al) D. Dierks, Jr., 85, of Conrad, IA, died Sunday, April 19, 2020, at Bartels Lutheran Retirement Home in Waverly.A celebration of life will be held at a later date at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. Born on May 19, 1934, in Marshalltown, IA, he was the son of Albert H., and Esther (Otto) Dierks. He graduated from Gladbrook High School in 1951. On April 4, 1954, he was united in marriage to Lois Hooper at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook. They made their home in Gladbrook until January 21, 1955, when Al enlisted in active service. He served as a military policeman in Fort Polk, LA until he was honorably discharged in January 1957. After their return to Gladbrook, they farmed for many years, raising laying hens, veal and grain. He and Lois also ran the family businesses of Casey’s in Conrad and the A&W in Forest City. He was an active member of the Peace United Church of Christ, the church choir, men’s chorus, the American Legion and the Grand Lodge of Freemasons. Many will remember his joking demeanor, love of family, playing cards, cribbage, watching children and grandchildren’s sporting activities, water skiing and playing Santa Claus. He will be missed by many. Left to cherish his memory are his four children: Donn (Jacquie), of Council Bluffs, Kent (Vicki), of Denver, IA, Jill (Doug) Lutes, of Conrad, Scot (Jamie), of Winnsboro, TX; grandchildren: Devin, Crystal, Savannah, Ryan (Andrea) Lutes, Tyler Lutes, Nicole Lutes; his brother, Gary (Sandra) Waterloo, IA; as well as nieces, nephews and a host of friends. In death he has rejoined his wife, Lois; parents and a brother, Harold Lee.
