Alberta was born November 22, 1929, in Eldora, Iowa, at the home of her parents, Louis and Dorothy (Pickering) Mathews. She was the oldest of five children and outlived them all. She graduated from Eldora High School in 1948.

Alberta was united in marriage to the love of her life, Donald E. Myers, on August 20, 1948. Following their marriage they made their home in Eldora until 1965 when their family moved to Marshalltown for Don’s work. They were members of the Church of Christ in Eldora and raised their children in the church. Alberta taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible School. Alberta and Donald celebrated 63 years of marriage, prior to Don’s passing. Alberta worked for 13 years at Marshalltown Instruments and later opened a day care in her home where she cared for numerous teachers’ children.

Alberta was a proud member of the UAW 893, the Eagle’s Club, the Hobby Craft Club at the YMCA and the prayer shawl group at the First United Methodist Church. She was an avid quilter, and she enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, sewing, crafting, card making, scrapbooking, reading and watching westerns, gardening, playing cards and baking (bread and noodles were her specialties). She was an excellent cook.

Alberta loved spending time with her family. She fried chicken almost every Sunday, where most of the family would gather at home, even though in fact she did not like chicken. Alberta loved traveling with Don out west to Idaho where two of her sons live and later to Florida every year to the Great Heron Inn. They spent a lot of time at campgrounds around the United States, enjoying many national parks. Alberta’s favorite destination was Hawaii.

Alberta is survived by her children: Donald E. Myers Jr (Ranae) of Sandpoint, Idaho, Michael Myers of Rathdrum, Idaho, Rebecca Metz of Marshalltown, Iowa, Dixie Stipanovich of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and William Myers of Marshalltown, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Susan Myers; 12 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren and her sister-in-law, Jeanette Myers of Anaheim, California along with several nieces and nephews.

Alberta was preceded in death by her husband; son, David Myers; son-in-law, Terry Metz; daughter-in-law, Cindy Myers; brothers, Robert Mathews and Richard Mathews; sisters, Janet Shaver and Kay Morlan and grandson, Shane Teagarden.
