Alfrieda E. Tolson, 99, of Marshalltown (Embers), formerly of Clinton, died on Friday, January 4, 2008, at the State Center Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 12, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center, Iowa with Reverend Michael Maddick officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Clinton Lawn Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, January 14, 2008. Friends may call at the church one-hour prior to the funeral service on Saturday. Ph 641-844-1234.Born on July 19, 1908, at home near DeWitt, Iowa, she was the daughter of Henry J. and Mathilda Hansen. Alfrieda graduated from high school and later went on to nursing school at Mercy Hospital in Clinton, graduating as a Registered Nurse in 1932. She then did post-graduate work at Chicago University. Alfrieda married Marvin E. Tolson on February 23, 1940 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Clinton. She worked as a nurse at Mercy Hospital in Clinton until her marriage. Alfrieda was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Clinton, Trinity Lutheran Church in State Center, Ladies Aid, Lamp Lighters, and various bible study groups.Left to cherish her memory are her son, John (Marva) Tolson of State Center; grandchildren, Scott (Mary Ellen) Tolson, Jim (Nicole) Bergeson, and John (Julie) Bergeson; and her great-grandchildren, Alec, Kurt, Grace, and Avery.In death she has rejoined her husband Marvin, her parents, two brothers, and one sister.
