Alice Butters, 86, of Marshalltown, died Wednesday night, August 17, at her home while in the loving care of her family and Iowa River Hospice.A graveside memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, at the Riverside Cemetery with her son-in-law, Mark Minear, sharing words of comfort. Following the service, family and friends are invited to the hospitality room at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. There will be no visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials in Alices memory to be directed to the Iowa River Hospice Living Legacy DVD program or the Family Fund. Born Alice Marie Alsbaugh on October 29, 1924, in Marshalltown, she was the daughter of Earl E. and Marie (Gorrell) Alsbaugh. She graduated from the Marshalltown High Schools Class of 1942 and soon went to work for Marshalltown Manufacturing, beginning in the front office and as a department head by the end of WWII.On August 15, 1947, she was united in marriage to John F. Butters in Newton. They made their home in Marshalltown where she gave organ lessons and did bookkeeping for various places, concluding with Mutual of New York for the last ten years of her career. She was a member of the First Friends Church. Alice shared long-time friendships with a special group of ladies since their elementary school years. This group met together for weekly coffee, birthday celebrations, and other special occasions of fellowship. Surviving are her daughters: Karen Kay (Jerry) Randleman of Carlisle, Karla (Mark) Minear of Marshalltown, and grandchildren: Emily (Ryan) Osweiler of Des Moines, Andrew (Hilliary) Minear of Bondurant, and her first great-grandson due in November. In death, she rejoined her parents, her husband John and brother Eugene Alsbaugh.
