Alice Ann (Wilson) (Coleman) Day, age 86, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on October 23, 2023.
A graveside service for Alice will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at the Albion Cemetery beginning at 2:15 P.M. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to the family for a later designation. Alice was born January 11, 1937 to Leonidus Wilson and Leona (Bushnell) Wilson in Aurora, Illinois. She had one brother, Donald Drexel Wilson.
Alice was united in marriage to Bernie M. Coleman in January of 1954. Afterwards, she married Donnald K. Day on August 6, 1980. Alice put God first in her life. She observed the Sabbath and attended church every Saturday until her mental health due to Alzheimer’s prevented her from doing so.
Alice was very intelligent and a hard worker. Her desire was to live on a farm where she could garden and raise her children. She worked various jobs throughout her lifetime to make sure her family was well taken care of, such as growing a large garden (canning and freezing), working as a stay-at-home mother, a professional artist, tax preparer, window washer, delivered newspapers, and worked for the Marshall County Treasurer’s office. For approximately 20 years prior to retiring, she owned and operated the Maytag laundromat in Nevada, Iowa.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her former husband (Bernie Coleman), and son (Gary T. Coleman).
Alice is survived by her husband, Donald K. Day, and their children, David (Joyce) Coleman, Daniel (Ruth) Coleman, Harold Coleman, Mark Day, Paul (Lorretta) Day, Elizabeth Coleman, Julie Day, Jodi (Mark) Hofer, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
