Alice Hunsinger-Taylor

Alice Hunsinger-Taylor, 85, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, January 04, 2014 at her home, with her loving husband by her side. Funeral services for Alice will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2014 at the First United Church of Christ with Pastor Kim Wilson officiating. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 7:00 p.m. on Friday, January 10, 2014, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Alice and her family. Alice Butters was born on September 25, 1928 in Quarry, Iowa, the daughter of Harley and Clara (Bowles) Butters. She was raised and educated in the Marshalltown School District, graduating from Marshalltown High School in 1946. Alice was united in marriage to Glen Taylor on April 30, 2000 in Union, Iowa. Alices work with the telephone company started in Marshalltown and took her to Des Moines to San Diego, to Anaheim, and ended in Portland, OR. Besides the telephone work, she and her husband (Donald Hunsinger) ran a couple of bars in Portland and a music store in Scappoosse, OR. Her husband died and she retired, and in 1981 she returned to her roots in Marshalltown. Alice was a member of the Brethren Church and was most recently a member of the First United Church of Christ. She also took part in the Monthly Birthday Card Club. Alice was a very generous person, volunteering her time at the hospital and as a retiree telephone pioneer. She never said no when it came to helping others. Alice was also well known for collecting Ronald McDonald tabs. Her passion was her family, especially her grandchildren. Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Glen Taylor; children: Dennis (Jeanne) Hunsinger of Washington, Steve (Laurie) Hunsinger of Oregon, Jonathan (Sue) Taylor of California, Melissa (Terry) Webb of Iowa, Kamala (Chris) Cline of Oregon; grandchildren: JoAnne (Mac) Rogel, Matthew Hunsinger, Shannon Hunsinger, Erik Taylor, Brienne Taylor, Levi Webb, Devin Webb, Easton Webb, Riley Cline, Olivia Cline, Isabella Cline; five great-grandchildren; brother: R. Dean (Marjorie) Butters; sister: Joan (Gene) Hilleman; nieces: Susan (Rick) Schill, Francine (Wayne) Marshall, Nancy (Audrey) Comer, Judy (Jim) Mecomber, Cathy Serrano, Karen Olson and Debbie Bell. She is preceded in death by her parents: Harley and Clara Butters; one niece: Andrea Butters; one grandson: Donald Hunsinger.
