Alice A. Kallestad

Alice A. Kallestad, 86, of Marshalltown, passed away Monday, April 4, 2016, at Central Iowa Healthcare in Marshalltown with her family by her side. Memorial services for Alice will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Elim Lutheran Church with Pastor Karen Cluts officiating. Public visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00p.m on Monday, April 11, 2016 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home where her family will be present to greet friends. Vaughn on Feb. 24, 1930, in North Platte, Nebraska, she was the daughter of Theodore H. and Alice K. Wiedeman Vaughn. She graduated from Algona High School in1948. On February 12, 1950 in Algona Iowa, Alice married the love of her life, Harold O. Kallestad and shortly after that they moved to Tacoma, Washington where her husband took up work and they started a family. In1958 they returned to Marshalltown, Iowa making that their home for the rest of their life. She was a long time member of Elim Lutheran Church and worked with Hope Chapel along with teaching Bethel Bible Study. She was also involved with Elims Clothes Closet. She worked at Casino Fashions, Davis Paint and later at Kallestad Appliance with her husband. She enjoyed being involved with the PTA at Woodbury School, Federated Women, and gave many talks on how to recycle items. She played a big part in getting the Emergency Food Box started. She loved writing poetry, working in her flower garden and being around family and friends. She is survived by two sons, Michael of Wellsburg, IA and Theodore (Joyce) of Marshalltown, IA. She is also survived by her brother, David (Lois) Vaughn of Alma, Michigan along with many nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Theodore H. and Alice K. Vaughn and also her loving husband, Harold in August, 2015.
