Alice Lofgreen, 90, of the Glenwood Place in Marshalltown, formerly of Montezuma and the Bobcat Estates in Marshalltown, died early Saturday morning, March 31st, at the Glenwood Place while in care of the Iowa Hospice. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 2nd, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with a time of fellowship and refreshments immediately following in the hospitality room of the funeral home. Interment rites will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Jackson Township Cemetery at Montezuma. Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimers Foundation. Born Alice Kingery on April 4th, 1916, at Eldon, Iowa, she was one of three daughters born to Oran and Mina (Riegel) Kingery. She moved to Ottumwa with her family in 1918 and attended school there. In 1931, the family moved to Montezuma where she graduated from high school in 1934. Alice graduated from Drake University in 1936 and taught first grade at Moorhead, Iowa. On October 24th, 1937, she was united in marriage to Harold Lofgreen. They resided in Jefferson one year and then to Montezuma. Mrs. Lofgreen was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority, taught Sunday school, substitute taught, and was a member of the Ken Club, H.G. Club, and the American Legion Auxiliary, a charter member of the Womens Society, Christian Women, and the Montezuma Methodist Church. She transferred to the Marshalltown United Methodist Church when they moved to Marshalltown in 1983 from Lake Ponderosa where they had lived the previous 14 years. Mrs. Lofgreen enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading, and being with family. Surviving is her daughter, Sara Sally (Larry) Hansen of Marshalltown, son Harold Hal (Connie) of Becker, Minnesota, grandchildren: Jennifer Roe, Dr. Beth (Andy) Kilborn and Jim Lofgreen as well as her family at Glenwood Place. In death she has rejoined her beloved Harold, her parents and two sisters.
