Al Leonard

Allan “Al” Leonard, age 69 of Rhodes, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown.

Funeral Service will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Friday, August 29, 2025 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. until time of service. Al will be laid to rest in Bangor Cemetery at a later date.

Allan Dean Leonard was born on October 23, 1955 in Belle Plaine, the son of Merle E. and Maxine B. (Holts) Leonard. He graduated from Marshalltown High School and later earned is welding degree from DMACC.

On October 12, 1974, Al was united in marriage with Kathy Borton in Marshalltown. They later divorced but remained wonderful friends.

Al worked at DeeZee for 10 years. For most of his working life, he was a trim carpenter by trade, but he also enjoyed woodworking in his free time. Al loved to ride his motorcycle, deer hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Maxine Leonard; his mother-in-law, Viola Brown; his sons, John A. Leonard and Keghun Borton; and his grandson, Mr. Max Leonard – Hellum. He is survived by his former wife and lifelong companion, Kathy Borton; his children, Amanda Leonard – Hellum, Daniel (Kelsey) Leonard and Jennifer (Roy) Ritter; 15 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers, Everett (Robin) F. Leonard and Jeff (Peggy) S. Leonard.
