Allen Snyder, 67, of Marshalltown, passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at UnityPoint Health – Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Allen Wayne Snyder was born on June 6, 1958, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the son of Gordon and Helen (Conrad) Snyder. He attended Marshalltown Public Schools. Allen was employed at PCA in Marshalltown and later worked at Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA) until May of 2010, when he was no longer able to work due to medical reasons.
Allen and Kathy began their life together on July 10, 2004, and shared nearly 22 cherished years. Following Allen’s accident in May of 2010, they spent much of their time together adjusting to a new normal, traveling to medical appointments and navigating the challenges of Kathy serving as his caregiver. Despite the difficulties, their love and devotion to one another sustained them. Some of their fondest memories included their Thursday night Maid-Rite tradition, including a memorable visit during the 2018 tornado. After Kathy finished her Maid-Rite she sought shelter in their closet while Allen watched the storm from the back deck slider doors, laughing and remarking, “There goes the carport onto Roger’s house!” When not focused on health matters, Allen and Kathy enjoyed spending time on their back deck and caring for their many beloved dogs.
Allen especially enjoyed relaxing on the back deck—grilling, listening to music, and enjoying the outdoors. He had a deep appreciation for music and maintained a large collection of CDs, often listening to artists such as Bob Seger, Alan Jackson, The Doors, and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He also enjoyed cheering for his favorite team, the Minnesota Vikings, and greatly treasured time spent with his grandchildren.
Allen enjoyed fishing with his sons Jeff and Ross, golfing, and was known for his skill and pride in working with his hands. In earlier years, he spent time remodeling his own home and assisting family members with home improvement projects, including siding to kitchen countertops, and many other renovations. When Iowa River Hospice was building the Hospice House, Allen contributed his talents by building the parade float for the Oktemberfest parade that year to help raise awareness for such a great cause.
Allen was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon (Jan) Snyder and Helen (Bill) Curley, and his mother-in-law, Arlene Haloupek.
Those left to honor and cherish his memory include his wife, Kathy; his children, Wade Snyder, Jeff Pentz, Ross Pentz, and Audrey Pentz; his stepchildren, Tracy Pieters and Austin Richardson; seven grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, and three step-great-grandsons, which he would always greet with a hand shake; his siblings, Marian Buchanan, Virginia Warner, Gordon Snyder, Tim Newton, Cindy Cruzan, and Michelle Curley; as well as his beloved four-legged companions, Bud and Duke.
In accordance with Allen’s wishes, cremation rites will be observed. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home and visitation with the family at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for later designation.
