Alvin Storjohann

Alvin Storjohann, age 96, of Marshalltown, died Easter Sunday, April 21st, at the Willows in Marshalltown.            Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 27th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Ellcey officiating. He will be laid to rest with full military honors by the combined Marshalltown Honor Guard of the VFW and American Legion. Visitation will be one-hour prior to the services. Ph. 641-844-1234.            Born on September 5th, 1922, in rural Garwin, IA, he was one of 10 children born to Johannes Henry and Alvena (Landt) Storjohann, Sr. He received his education in the area of his birth.Alvin served our country proudly in the United States Army during WWII.  During Christmas furlough, he was united in marriage to Stella Hanegan on December 30th, 1945. The young couple met while she worked at the Gladbrook Movie Theatre making popcorn. After his return from service, they made Marshalltown their home all of their married lives. Alvin worked at the hatchery on 1st Avenue and later the Marshalltown Water Works.             Alvin will be fondly remembered for his generosity, kindness and ability to help others with any “building” needs- he practically had a hardware store in his basement! He was a proud US Veteran- and so were the following three generations in his family.           Left to cherish his memory are children: Steve (Alecia), Deb Mettlin and David Storjohann all of Marshalltown; five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.             In death, Alvin rejoined his beautiful bride, Stella, who passed away two days before Christmas last year, nine siblings, his parents and great-great-grandchild.
