Alvin Van Waardhuizen

Alvin Dean Van Waardhuizen, 87, passed away on November 20, 2018 at Oakview Nursing Center in Conrad, Iowa. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Liscomb Church of Christ at 10:30 a.m. with a public visitation held on Thursday, November 29, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5-7:00 p.m. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be used at a later date. For condolences please visit www.Mitchellfh.com or call (641)-844-1234. Alvin was born on November 27, 1930 to the parents of Gerrit and Dirkie (VanZante) Van Waardhuizen in Otley, Iowa. Alvin attended school until the 8th grade and afterwards he was employed as a farm hand to help support his family. Alvin was united in marriage to Jeanetta Harsselaar, and even though their marriage parted, they were blessed with three children. Then Alvin was remarried to Charlotte Beughly and had spent their lives together until her passing on December 31, 2017.  Alvin loved to tinker on anything that he could get his hands on. He would turn tractors into hot rods and would always try to stay busy. He was a mechanic for a few years and after his retirement he serviced lawn and garden tractors and tools. He was known to help anyone in need whether it was a tractor that would not start or lawn and garden tractors, Alvin was there at the drop of a hat. Alvin leaves behind a strong work ethic and a general love of the land. Left to cherish Alvin’s memory are his children: Shirley Mae George, Judy Ann (Calvin) Dewey and Melvin (Betty) Van Waardhuizen; grandchildren: Jeanne Spencer, Chris Spencer, Josh Kepthart, Daniel Van Waarhuizen and Theresa Van Waardhuizen, 14 greatgrandchildren and brother Bill Van Waardhuizen. He is preceded in death by his parents Gerrit and Dirkie, brothers Johnny and Harris, and his wives Jeanetta and Charlotte.
