Andrew “Andy” J. Schmidt, 45 years young, of Cedar Rapids, passed away June 17, 2021. Cremation rites have been accorded and no services are planned at this time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family. For questions or to leave a condolence, please visit www.mitchellfh.com or call 641-844-1234.  Andy Schmidt was born November 16, 1975, in Newton, IA to parents Danny Schmidt and Barbara (Perry) Stubbs. Andy loved spending his time as a simple kid- getting into woodworking and construction at a young age. After obtaining his GED and taking classes at Marshalltown Community College to further his experience in many hands-on fields, Andy went out into the world to find jobs wherever the field took him. From fighting wildfires to keeping his childhood love of construction and woodwork, Andy and his family called many places “home.”  Those left to cherish Andy’s memory are his children, Kaleb and Kylee Schmidt; his father, Danny Schmidt; his mother, Barbara (Randy) Stubbs; his siblings, Brad (Kristi) Schmidt, Steph (Zach) Kern, and Ryan Stubbs; and many nieces, nephews, family, and friends.   Andy is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Eugene Schmidt.
