Andrew Stangeland

Andrew Stangeland, age 90, a longtime rural Stavanger resident, died Saturday, November 12, at the Bickford Cottage in Marshalltown. Funeral services for Andrew will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, November 16, at the Stavanger Friends Church. Visitation for Andrew will be held from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 15, at the Stavanger Friends Church where his family will be present to greet friends. Burial will follow services at the Stavanger Friends Cemetery. A memorial fund is being established. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Andrew and his family. He graduated from the Dunbar High School in 1938. Andy farmed all of his life in the Stavanger community and served on the board of the Dunbar Elevator- then becoming part of the Marshall Farm Service. He also served on the church trustee board and for nearly 60 years on the Stavanger Cemetery Board. Until her passing in 1961, he was devoted to the care and welfare of his mother, Ingene. Andy loved to travel and went on many bus trips. He enjoyed trips to Norway to visit his heritage and was able to visit nearly every National Park in the United States and many in Canada as well as travels to Alaska. Left to cherish his memory are his sister-in-law Beverly Stangeland of Cincinnati, Ohio, his nieces and nephews: Lloyd (Charlotte) Stangeland of Oskaloosa, Karen Rasmussen of Marshalltown, Sharon (Gene) Hoover of Marshalltown, Kay (Doug) McDonald of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kevin Stangeland of Portales, New Mexico and Tom (Trish) Stangeland of Salisbury, North Carolina as well as many great-nieces and nephews.In death, Andy rejoined his parents, his brothers Tilman and Clarence (and wife Helen), nephew Jimmy Stangeland and niece Nancy Stangeland.
