Angeline Marie Schutz was born March 20, 1925 in Hunter Kansas. She was one of five children born to Nicholas and Veronica (Thummel) Schutz. She grew up on a farm outside of Hunter and would attend schools within Hunter where she would later graduate. She furthered her education taking college courses.
In 1944, she was united in marriage to Dwight L. Dungy. They made their home together in Marshalltown, Iowa raising their five children. Angie held many hats in her career, she first and foremost took care of her family and worked for a time as a teacher in a one room school house, air traffic control at the Marshalltown Airport and working for the secretary at St. Henry’s. Over the years she was extremely involved with St. Henry serving as a faithful member and on the Altar and Rosary Society.
In her free time, she loved music and taught herself the piano, clarinet, violin and guitar. Quilting was another love language of hers making quilts to send overseas for various organizations as well as for her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed taking the time every day to work through the NY Times cross word puzzles, canning food, gardening and cheering on the Chicago Cubs. While she enjoyed the simple things in life, she loved every minute and was always a hard worker.
Those left to remember and cherish her memory are her children, Janice (Tom) Leeds of Palestine, Texas, Mike (Sandy) Dungy of Winona, MN, Steve (Nancy) Dungy of Cannon Falls, MN, and Teresa (Joe) Burke of Clive, Iowa; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Caroline Engelbert of Augusta, KS; alongside numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Dwight Dungy; her son, Larry Dungy; one granddaughter, her parents, Nicholas and Veronica Schutz; and siblings Helen Eilert; Eugene Schutz and Lawrence Schutz.
The family would like to thank the staff and residents of The Embers for providing friendship and extraordinary assistance to Angie during the many years she lived there, and to Iowa River Hospice and Unity Point Hospital for their kindness and making her comfortable in her last days.
