Arla A. Guckert

Arla A. Guckert, 87, of Marshalltown, Iowa, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2015, at Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. The family will be holding a private graveside service at a later date at the Center School Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later time. Steward was born to Ralph and Lula (Bryant) Steward on October 24, 1927, in St. Anthony, Iowa. She graduated from St. Anthony High School. On October 28, 1951, Arla was united in marriage to John Guckert at St. Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Arlas career began at Cooper Manufacturing, then worked at the County Home and West Marshall Schools, Marshalltown Trowel Company, then retired out of Fisher Controls in 1992. Arla also raised her kids on the family farma job in which she took great pride. Arla was an avid gardener of both flowers and vegetables. She also enjoyed dancing, horseback riding, cooking and canning, and spending time with her family. She was a member of the UAW, the Moose Lodge, St. Marys Catholic Church in Marshalltown, and St. Josephs Catholic Church in Rhodes, Iowa. Left to cherish Arlas memory are her children: Jean (Doug) Campbell, John Guckert, Jim (Toni) Guckert, Joe Guckert, and Judy Thomas (Mark Johnson); grandchildren: Jay Campbell, John (Kendra) Campbell, Jason Guckert, Jill Thomas, Jeffrey Guckert, Julie Thomas, D.J. (Sharon) Cunningham, Josh Cunningham, Lauren Cunningham, and Cie Ann (Zach) Stien; great- grandchildren: Jonas Campbell, Adelyn Stien, Cale Stien, Abby Cunningham, Jake Cunningham, and Eli Cunningham-Arreola; one sister: Hazel Burg Burton and numerous nephews and nieces. Arla was preceded in death by her husband, John Guckert; and her parents, Ralph and Lula Steward; siblings: Opal Funke, Lloyd Steward, Lyle Steward and Lila Flanagan.
