Arla Schmidt, 70, of Eldora, Iowa and formerly of the Marshalltown area passed away in the comfort of her own home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, October 2nd 2021 under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. Services for Arla will be held on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. on Thursday October 7, 2021 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Arla and her family. Arla Faith Taft was born November 12, 1950 to parents Chauncey and Helen (Parmeter) Taft in Marshalltown, Iowa. She was one of five children. Arla grew up in Marshalltown and attended school within the community. Living in the Conrad-Beaman area as well as the surrounding Marshalltown communities, she worked for a number of years as a health care aid both in nursing home and assisted care facilities and in home. She raised her four children Buffy, Christina, Jennifer, and John. On May 7, 1995, she was united in marriage to Robert Schmidt Sr. in Tama, Iowa.Together they made their home in Eldora, Iowa. In her free time, family was the utmost importance and she absolutely loved to spend time with her grandchildren and getting together with her family. She also enjoyed sewing, going thrift shopping, tending to her flower gardens, playing games on her phone, playing card games, going fishing and playing the guitar. She is survived by her husband Robert Schmidt Sr.; her children; Buffy (Demetrius Hinton) Smith, Jennifer (Jeff Chamberlin), and John (Kellie) Smith; her grandchildren, Mikayla (Vaughn) Wilson, Taylor Cruz, Parker Pagel, Drake Pagel, Drew Pagel, Joslyn Chamberlin, Camryn Butler, Pieper Smith and Grayson Smith; her great-grandchildren Naomi Kapayou and Logan Wilson; her siblings, Daniel (Lori) Taft, John Taft, Chan-elen (Jim) Brass, Ben (Melissa) Taft; alongside numerous extended family members and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Chauncey and Helen (Lorraine) Wallace; her daughter Christina Cruz; son-in-law Emilio Cruz; and her grandson Joshua Smith.
