Arlene Bohnsack, 91, of Marshalltown, died July 7, 2007, at Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. At her request, no funeral service will be held. A private family burial will be held at a later date. Memorials in her honor may be directed to the Iowa River Hospice building fund. Arlene Bohnsack was born on February 15, 1916, to John and Bertha Handorf in Ferguson, Iowa. She attended rural country schools in Tama County and graduated from Garwin High School in 1933. She attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Arlene taught in rural schools in Dysart and Garwin and at Van Cleave and Albion Junior High Schools. She did substitute teaching in Marshalltown in later years. On February 12, 1937, she was united in marriage to Delbert McCrary, who died in 1941. She later married Harold Bohnsack on June 1, 1948.Arlene was a member of Central Christian Church, Merry Mixers Club, TuLarCul, Womens Elks Club, Senior Citizens, and several bridge clubs. She enjoyed playing cards and cooking and baking for her family. Left to celebrate her life are her children: Marlyn (June) McCrary, Ardelle (Terry) Downey, Brenda (Jim) Walkup, all of Marshalltown, and Beth (Tracy) Mack of Lakeville, MN; grandchildren Michael McCrary, Brant (Celeste) Luense, Wade (Susie) Luense, Erin (Aaron Landmesser) Luense, Troy Walkup, Trent (Jennifer) Walkup, Travis, Whitney, Carson, and Mercer Mack; great grandchildren Brittany Wright, Megan and Connor McCrary, Logan and Leiah Luense, Grant and Carter Luense, and Claire and Addison Landmesser, sisters Esther Nelson of Dysart, Maxine Halverson of Marshalltown, and Marilyn (Burton) Butler of Cedar Rapids, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Delbert and Harold, granddaughter Pamela McCrary Wright, and sister Wilma Beichley.
