Arlys Mast

Arlys Mast, age 73, of Marshalltown, passed away on the morning of Monday, March 23rd, at the Iowa River Hospice Home in Marshalltown. The haeadline of this obituary will state the date of death is June 26th, but her true date of passing was March 23rd. This is due to desire to have obituary appear in most recent postings.           A memorial gathering to honor Arlys’ life and to share memories will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 30th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Ph. 641-844-1234.           Born on May 13th, 1946, in Grundy Center, Iowa, she was one of nine children born to Gus and Esther (Van Deest) Rindels. She graduated from the Grundy Center High School in 1964 and came to Marshalltown to attend beauty school.           On May 14th, 1966, she was united in marriage to Wayne Mast in her hometown. They made Marshalltown their home all of their married lives. Arlys was a 30 year plus employee of the Marshalltown Community School’s food service, providing countless meals to kids. She enjoyed working with kids and often bought extra cookies for them. Whether at work or at home, she enjoyed cooking and baking, and making Christmas candies. She loved traveling to warm places (even after a lifetime in Iowa, she hated the cold), collecting Swarovski Crystal and many would remember her walking miles around town.           Left to cherish her memory are Wayne, her loving husband of 53 years, sons Mark (Shelley) Mast of Ankeny and Sean (Tonia) Mast of Marshalltown, six grandchildren, her sister Caroline Gibson of Grundy Center and Harold “Butch” Rindels in Ohio, her best friend Mary Curtis of Marshalltown as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.           In death, Arlys rejoined her parents and six siblings.
