Arnie Lathrop

Arnie Lathrop, 72, of Marshalltown, died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at the Veterans Medical Center in Des Moines. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, June 4, 2010 at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. There will be no visitation. Full Military Honors will be provided by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #839. Memorials may be directed to the family. Phone 641-844-1234.Born on September 6, 1937 to George and Lillian (Dalbey) Lathrop, he attended Marshalltown schools graduating from Marshalltown High School. Arnie honorably served our country in the United States Marine Corps. He then lived in Marshalltown where he worked for LE Meyer Co. and then became a self employed handy man; he was really a jack of all trades kind of guy. He loved to visit, never knowing a stranger and helping those less fortunate, enjoyed traveling and eating out, but also enjoyed cooking and was a good cook; he loved his animals and especially his dog Missy. Left to cherish Arnies memory are his sisters: Roxane (Brian) Warnell of Gladbrook and Rhonda (Jack) Byers of Dallas, Texas; a step-brother Donald Boots of Menlo, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; and a cousin Harold Lathrop. Arnie was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father who raised him.
