Arnold Gummert

Arnold George Gummert, 86, of rural Gilman went to be with his Lord on February 27th, 2014. Services will be held on Tuesday, March 4th, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church of Dillon. A visitation will take place on Monday, March 3rd, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown. Arnold was born on March 13th, 1927 to Wilbert and Amanda (Wolken) Gummert. He was born in the same house he lived in his whole life. Arnold attended school in Ferguson and later worked with his father on the family farm. His wish was to die on the century family farm and that wish was granted. In 1949 he married Aloma Irene Renner and to this union he had three children: Joel, Kevin and Jeannie. Aloma passed away in 1977 and Kevin died at birth. In 1979 he married Evelyn Sawyer and she had four children: Bruce, Ann, Dottie and David. Arnold was a farmer and a great plumber and pump man. He loved to tinker in his shop and loved polka music. The grandkids remember him and grandma dancing around the dining room table. Arnold was also a collector of Ford and AC tractors. The grandkids called them Grandpa and Grandma Tractor. Left to cherish his many memories is his children: Joel and Kim (Gooding) Gummert of Gilman, Jeannie and Pete Scheiding of Clarksville, Tennessee, Ann and Craig Danner of Marshalltown and Dot Sawyer of Gladbrook and fourteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents; Wilbert and Amanda, first wife Aloma, son Kevin, one brother Donald, two sisters Dorothy and Hazel and stepsons Bruce and David Sawyer.
