Sonny Arthur Clinton (Stoney) Downs, age 59, of Marshalltown, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021. Per the wishes of Arthur and his family, cremation rites have been accorded under the care of the Mitchell Family Funeral Home. There are no formal services at this time. Arthur Clinton Downs was born on September 23, 1961 to parents Arthur James Downs and Darlene Brees (Clark) in Abilene, Texas. At a young age he and his family moved to Iowa and they called Marshalltown home. He attended school within the Marshalltown Community School District and later attended some trade school. He was a genius in music and in art working through a career of playing the guitar and working many drawing and art projects. In his free time, he was often rooting on the Kansas City Chiefs and playing one of his many guitars that he owned. He enjoyed drawing object and making them into works of art and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a strong family-oriented man who was loved and will be missed by all and his four legged orange child biscuts. Those left to cherish his memory are his children Richard Mendyke, Jacob (Stephanie) Downs, and Sarah Aswegan; his grandchildren, Niki Mendyke, Aiden Aswegan, and Sophia Downs; his three brothers, Mike Joel and Bobby and three sisters, Kathy, Pam and Darla; his mother Darlene Brees; and numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father Arthur James Downs; his grandparents; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
