Arthur Artie H. Riese, 82, of Colo, died Monday, August 29, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 3, at the St. John Lutheran Church north of State Center with Pastor David Klinge officiating. He will be laid to rest in the St. John Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8:00 p.m. on Friday at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home West Marshall Chapel in State Center. He was born to Arthur and Lois (Pfantz) Riese on February 20, 1929, and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John Lutheran Church, State Center.Artie was educated in his early years at Sherman Township country schools and St. John Parochial School and then graduating with the class of 1946 form Colo High School.On December 30, 1966, he was united in marriage to Ellen Allie of Colo.A farmer, he enjoyed raising cattle (as long as they were black). He was especially proud of the fact that a load of his cattle was selected to be exported to Japan for Kobe beef. Not an expert but he made good wine from grapes to dandelions. An avid gardener, he took joy in raising vegetables for the Farmers Market, especially the roly-poly zucchini. He had lived on the Century Farm all of his life.He was active in the church, serving in many different positions as well as volunteering at Clemons Lutheran School. He was a devoted fan of I.S.U. football and basketball being a member of the Order of the Knoll as well as the Captains Club. He never missed watching a St. Louis Cardinals game on TV. Artie is survived by his wife Ellen of 44 years, step-sons: Mike Allie and John Allie; step-granddaughters, Marci (Todd) Rockhold and Kimberlee (Wyatt) Sines and four step-great-grandsons, Alex Williams, Elijah Rockhold, Zachary Sines and Ethan Sines, sisters Evelyn (Donald) Lutz and Helen Bunge as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brother-in-law Howard Bunge and step-daughter-in-law Dixie Allie.
