Audrey Lou Norman, 86, entered eternal life on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at the University Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa, at 1:25 p.m. Death came peacefully with her loving family by her side. Funeral services and a celebration of her life will be held on Monday, April 16, at 10:30 a.m., at the Union Community Church with Pastor Rick Schill officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m., Sunday, April 15, at the Union Community Church. Audrey entered into life on June 2, 1925. She was the third daughter and fourth child of Brantley Robert and Cecil Pearl Long Jones. Born on a farm near Rhodes, Iowa, she attended schools at State Center and later at Lincoln Township Consolidated School at Zearing, Iowa .Audrey and her two sisters, Veva and Helen, began singing at the Illinois Grove Friends Church, at their ice cream suppers and box suppers and many other events and soon became well known as The Jones Girls.Audrey was united in marriage to Carl Norman on March 12, 1941 at Princeton in Mercer County, Missouri. Their first home was in Liberty Township where she became active in the Liberty Friends Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and always helped with Vacation Bible School every year. She was also an active member of the United Society of Friends Womens Missionary Group. She was a member of Bangor Liberty Friends Church.Audrey loved to make quilts and has finished well over 35 quilts, supplying her entire family with a quilt or two. She was an avid reader and gardener and did win the most beautiful garden award one year. Her most treasured job of all was caring for her family as a mother, grandmother, great and great-great grandmother and working towards her goal of doing goodness to everyone and serving her Lord.Left to cherish her memory are her beloved children: Janice (Glenn) Morland, North Liberty; Carla (Bill) Dougherty, Southborough, Mass; Stanley (Pam) Norman, New Providence, Iowa; Dave (Linda) Norman, Union, Iowa; her grandchildren, Andrea (Morrie) Fanto, Germany; Keri (Patrick) Morris, Williamsburg, Iowa; Talia (Dave) Hammond, White Salman, Washington; Jed (Megan) Norman, Grundy Center, Iowa; Jacob Norman, Eldora, Iowa; Jay Waters, Deary, Idaho; Shawn (Chris) Morland, Colorado Spring, Colorado; Dianna Holder, North Liberty, Iowa; Lorelei (Jay) Kurimski, Solon, Iowa; Michelle (Mike) Wichman, Coralville, Iowa; Eric (Tracey) Morland, Erie, Colorado; nine great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, three sisters-in-law: Delores Jones of Zearing, Iowa; Issie Jones of Nevada, Iowa and Alice Marie Jonea of Ames, Iowa, one sister, Helen Settle of Marshalltown, Iowa and numerous nieces and nephews. Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Carl in 2006; her parents, her 3 brothers: Leo, Wayne and Kenneth, one sister, Veva, her two nephews: Bob and Dean Brantley Jones, and two grand nieces: Michelle Settle and Donna Jones. Audrey was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Memorials may be directed to her church.
