The colorful and accomplished life of a very young 101/102 year old Avon Burt of Marshalltown came to a close late Monday night, March 27th, at the Iowa River Hospice Home with family at her side. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday April 3, 2017, at Central Christian Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2017 at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Born on December 29th, 1914/1915, in Wyoming, she was the daughter of John Reuel and Iowa Hannah Toad (Duke) Turner. Avon received her education in Clay College Rural School, the Bloomfield Junior College, Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa State University and UNI. For over 60 years, she help mold and develop young lives into responsible adults in a Southern Iowa rural school, Ferguson, Nevada, Conrad and Marshalltown area school districts and after retirement she wanted to continually learn and took classes at MCC in computer, art, painting and ceramics. Avon was united in marriage to Ivan Andy Burt, in Drakesville, Iowa. To their union, a daughter, Andrea, was born. Mrs. Burt was a faithful member of Central Christian Church, the Y Board, Beta Sigma Phi, and created a line-dancing class at the Y for women. She was passionate about her family and friends, all sports, the Chicago Cubs and Marshalltown Bobcats. She drove the support vehicle for 12 RAGBRAIs until 2004 when she was 89 years old. Even though it took her entire lifetime, was able to see her favorite team, The Chicago Cubs, win the 2016 World Series. Avon was able to be at the 4th game of the series in Chicago and was interviewed by local press and escorted to Wrigley Field buy the Chicago Police Department. Left to cherish her remarkable life is her daughter Andrea of Marshalltown, a sister-in-law Margaret, several nieces, nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews and her church family, former students, co-workers and many friends. Once you were a friend of Avons she considered you family. In death, Avon rejoined her husband Andy, her parents, and three brothers: Forrest (Dorothy), Rex (Maxine) and Dean.
